 Cape Kiyan on the extreme southern tip of Okinawa is still rural and easy to get permission to hunt.  During the war everything culminated here during the last days of battle.

Digging out artifacts from the Japanese Artillery positions hidden on Cape Kiyan (Ozato) 

 That's a 1300 era chinese coin sticking out of a piece of coral rock.  Dwayne and I had a blast digging out coins, and great WW2 items on this particular Kiyan ridgeline in the jungle.

 

Working hard to find the little stuff is worth the effort as the little objects are usually the most interesting objects unearthed!
